As with any non-profit organization, volunteers are always needed. The Western Museum of Flight’s volunteer staff is the heartbeat and backbone of museum operations. Volunteer opportunities exist for aircraft restoration projects, educational programs, facilities maintenance, museum office support. Volunteer help is needed for the following tasks and projects:
Docent
- Conduct guided tours for the visiting public
- Participate in the Kids Love Aviation Science school tours targeted for Third Grade and beyond
- Describe and explain exhibits
- Answer visitor questions about the museum
Receptionist
- Welcomes visitors
- Assists with signing-in
- Provides brief introduction to the museum
Cash Register Administrator
- Responsible for receiving cash and recording cash flow
- Familiar with cash register protocol
Aircraft Maintenance and Restoration
- Perform basic surface treatment tasks on the skin of the aircraft: corrosion control, sanding, painting
- High level technical expertise not required (elbow grease is)
Special Events Assistant
- Set up and take down tables and chairs for scheduled events
Audio Visual Support
- Setup and take down wireless PA system, TV monitors & computer
- Setup video camera, wireless microphone, receiver system and film subject
